Amanda Weir, 2-Time Olympic Medalist

Fun Fact: When I'm not swimming, you'll find me watching Brothers and Sisters or reading a good book.

Adam Ritter, 3-Time World University Games Medalist

Fun Fact: After 4 years of hard training, I took a month long vacation to South Africa and hunted for the first time. No, I didn't see Peter Marshall there (read below).

Mary DeScenza, World Champion & American Record Holder

Fun Fact: I still love to bake. Next time I visit TYR, I just may bring my infamous chocolate chip cookies. I like to make them for other swimmers when we travel to meets..

Fun Fact: I recently was the Grand Marshall at Northwestern's Homecoming Parade. I was able to visit my old stomping grounds where I graduated.

Defending Ironman Champion

Chrissie Wellington defended her Ironman World Championship Title in Kona.

Just what does this mean... The race takes 9 plus hours to complete, more time than you spend at a 9-5pm job. She started with a 2.4 mile swim, jumped on her bike for a 112 mile ride and then finished the day with a marathon (26.5 mile run).

The conditions in Kona are anything, but pleasant. Rough, twirling winds, 1,700 competitors. Bodies tangling together in the long ocean swim. And don't forget the marathon run.

Chrissie was in a strong spot entering into bike race. Unfortunately, things didn't go as smoothly as she had hoped on the bike. She got a flat tire, delaying her 10 minutes. Another competitor tossed her a canister to fill air in the tire. She was extremely grateful for this.

Her reaction, "I dealt with this with a smile. That's all you can do!" said Chrissie at a post race press conference.

Nonetheless she went on to win the race and defend her title from 2007.

Chrissie kept very busy in Kona. And rightfully so! She has a charming personality that attracts people everywhere to her.

She did media interviews with NBC, Associated Press, Ironman Live, an exclusive cover photo shoot with Triathlete Magazine. Don't forget her pre-race and post race press conference and awards banquet.

Read up on her interview with Ironmanlive.com.

Defending Ironman Champion

All the way from the UK, Chrissie's family supports her start to finish. Chrissie raced in honor of her Grandmother who passed away 6 weeks ago from Breast Cancer.

Go Chrissie!

Foregoing everything on her mind, Chrissie takes time to sign autographs of a young fan. She is defined as an ambassador for the sport and role model for the young, the old and anyone in between.
